Physical Game Ends With 1-0 Lady Zebras Win

After losing their first matchup to Foothill 0-4, Lincoln was ready for the physical game that surprised the Lady Zebras prior. Coach David Zinzun noted, "We expected them to come in physical again, and the girls responded well. Not only was this game a rematch with a third place position in the Pioneer Valley League, but it had playoff hopes along with it. The top three teams make the playoffs, with the fourth place wishing for a coin flip going their way.

This night also celebrated the Seniors playing the last time on their home field. One senior, Kaylin Props, having shut down her season due to a leg injury, played this night with her team to finish out her career at Lincoln high school. Coach Zinzun told 65 Sports, "I pulled her out after each bit and checked in on her. She wanted to go out on her terms and she did. She has been such a champion for the success of the soccer program here. This is the way it had to be."

It did not take long for the Mustangs to show their physical nature, as the Lady Zebras found themselves defying gravity and flying through the air with each extra push. Foothill would spend most of the time attacking Lincoln's side, until it seemed like a switch turned on.

With 18:27 to go in the first half, Lincoln's Katie Camerer came in from the right side of a bunch in front of the goal. A nicely lofted left foot shot went in giving the Lady Zebras the lead.

This gave Coach Zinzun an opportunity that changed the game. "I was able to move (Lauren Edwards) back to defense and that stopped (The Mustangs) attack. She is such a gifted athlete and she took them out of their game", Zinzun explained.

Lincoln would be able to hold the Mustangs off, while missing a few close chances to extend the lead. The Lady Zebras travel up the hill to Placer, who will be out for revenge from their 1-2 loss to Lincoln on April 4th. Lincoln comes in with a 4-2-1 PVL record (9-5-2 overall) and sitting in 3rd place 1.5 games up on Foothill.

Placer is half a game up on Lincoln which puts second place on the line Tuesday April 26th at Railhead Park in Auburn. game starts at 4 pm.
