Lincoln Girls Soccer Sends Four To College Level

A program on the rize, the Lincoln Fighting Zebras have come a long way in just a few years under the direction of Coach David Zinzun. From a program that has struggled to challenge getting a win and now facing the chance of making the playoffs, four girls have shown what the future of Lady Zebra soccer is all about and are being rewarded by moving on to college level soccer.

Friday the Lincoln Fighting Zebras Soccer JV and Varsity teams, along with the players families celebrated with a signing day in the high school gym.

Coach David Zinzun spoke about how important each one of them were to the drastic change that has happened already at Lincoln high school and how they have moved the program forward to respect in the area.

Monica Guzman will be heading to study and play at Sierra college in the Fall. Zinzun told the crowd, "Monica is my never say No! She does everything I ask of her and more." Monica when asked about the opportunity to move on, "I am just so excited to be able to play in college!"

Kaylin Props suffered an edemia in her tibia this year and had to shut her season down early. Props did return just the other night to spend one last night on her home field with her teammates in a win over Foothill. "Kaylin is the my ear of the team. She helps me know how the team is going and wants the program to be successful not only now, but in the future. She even called me before the season and asked me how can we make this team a winner", Zinzun elucidated. Kaylin recognized, "My family has been there at every game, no matter how far I traveled. I would never gotten here without them."

President of the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) club, Katie Camerer chose only to apply to only Christian based colleges, but found the perfect home, just a few miles down the road. "William Jessup is a perfect fit for me", Katie explained. Adding, "They play for the glory of God. This matches my beliefs and values, so it was the ideal place for me to call my new home, even though it is bittersweet to be leaving this home, I love so much. Katie plans on dual majoring Broadcasting and Public Policy so she can be a political reporter.

Lauren Edwards with be going the furthest from Lincoln, all the way to Grinnell College in Iowa. "I wanted to go to a Liberal Arts college and I found this amazing university in Iowa", Lauren jubilantly to 65 Sports. Coach Zinzun praised Edwards ability, "Lauren is such an incredible athlete. She can take the ball from one end of the field through the entire defense and they can't do anything about it." Lauren loved how much being on the Lincoln high school soccer team allowed her to bond with her teammates and turn the program around to respectability.
